“From seashore to seashore you’ll have ascended and descended the height of Mount Everest”
The British Walking Guide
Originally described by Alfred Wainwright in his 1973 book A Coast to Coast Walk, this hike covers 192 miles of English countryside. The walk has been rerouted several times. The latest version was in 2003. Despite being an unofficial route it has relatively few signposts and requires good navigation skills.
Paul hiked the nearest version he could find to his original walk including the mountains or ‘fells’ of the Lake District, the Westmorland limestone plateau, the rivers and valleys of the Yorkshire Dales and the boggy hills of the Yorkshire Moors. It is customary to dip your boot in the Irish Sea, take a pebble and, two weeks later, cast it into the North Sea.
